As surprising as this may be, I don’t read all day long. Sometimes I take a break from books by watching movies. Yep, I am a big fan of films. And, as many of you are likely aware, this weekend marks the opening of two attention-grabbing movies that have literary beginnings.
Atonement, a movie starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy that is based on the novel by Ian McEwan, opens this Friday. Also opening Friday is The Golden Compass, the first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy, which stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. The Golden Compass, of course, is an adaptation of Philip Pullman’s masterpiece of the same name.
If you haven’t read these terrific books, I’d recommend stopping by the neighborhood bookstore and picking them up. Both have movie tie-in covers and, in the case of The Golden Compass, a range of titles has been released related to the movie.
