Extra! Extra! We Sell Papers, Too

April 30, 2006

Did you know that River City Books sells The New York Times every day of the week? It’s true. We’ve long carried the newspaper during the week and recently we have started offering a limited number of copies on the weekends — while daily supplies last.

If you’re interested in purchasing all the news that’s fit to print, stop by our store and let us know! If demand exceeds our supply we’ll happily order more copies.

Speaking of which, it’s probably worth a reminder that River City Books is open all weekend: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Landvik Visiting As Part of Northfield Reads!

April 29, 2006

my stars.JPGThis just in: Lorna Landvik’s latest book, Oh My Stars, has been selected as the next Northfield Reads! pick. I am also thrilled to report that Landvik will appear at 7 p.m., May 12, at the Northfield Arts Guild for a reading and book signing in conjunction with Northfield Reads!

Landvik, a native of Minneapolis, is the author of the bestselling novels Patty Jane’s House of Curl, “Your Oasis on Flame Lake,” “The Tall Pine Polka,” and Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons. She is also an actor, playwright, and proud hockey mom.

“Oh My Stars” is Landvik’s most ambitious novel yet, with a cast of memorable characters whose travails and triumphs will make you think. The book is a tale of love and hope, bigotry and betrayal, loss and discovery — as Violet, who’s always considered herself a minor character in her own life story, emerges as a heroine you’ll laugh with, cry with, and care about.

River City Books is selling Oh My Stars, available in paperback, at a 20-percent discount through the event.Northfield Reads! is a communitywide book club sponsored by River City Books, the Carleton and St. Olaf bookstores, and the Northfield Public Library. The aim is to encourage Northfield area residents to share the experience of reading and discussing a common book. Anyone can join the club.

Of course, Landvik’s appearance is free and open to the public.
