A Good Day To Be A Reader

chew.JPGfast_.jpgIt's been a couple of years since I read Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation so I can't quote from the book verbatim (I can hardly remember where I scraped up my last meal), but I won't soon forget one general story in the book.

Schlosser visited a chemical plant — I think it was in New Jersey; heck, where else could it have been? — and a scientist told him to close his eyes. Soon, Schlosser was inhaling the sweet smell of grilled hamburger. But when the scientist told Schlosser he could open his eyes all that was before him was a drop of some chemical on a piece of paper.

There won't likely be any fascinating science experiments, but Friday is shaping up as a terrific day to be a book lover in Northfield. First, there's Schlosser's appearance and then in the evening — 7 p.m. at the Northfield Arts Guild, to be exact — Lorna Landvik will entertain readers.

Hope to see you — once or twice — on Friday.
