The Answer to Every Question

everything2.jpgIt’s been a spell since I picked a bargain book from the stacks at River City Books and told you: Don’t pass up this deal! The wait is over as last night I found a doozey.

For just $3.99 you can buy The Meaning of Everything by Simon Winchester. Now, I am not certain the book contains every scrap of knowledge known to humankind, as the title suggests, but I do know some folks who think very highly of this book.

“Peculiarly inspiring … and Winchester’s involving and gregarious narration is nearly Dickensian,” says Gregory Kirshchling of Entertainment Weekly. “Even his footnotes twinkle.”

The Meaning of Everything was written by the best-selling author of The Professor and the Madman, The Map That Changed the World and Krakatoa. It’s a story about the history of the English language and of its unrivaled treasure house, the Oxford English Dictionary.

It’s currently priced at less than you’d pay for a hamburger. And, different than the burger, the book contains no trans-fatty acids.

In other words, don’t pass up this deal!
