Updating a Previous Story

A while back, I reported the long list of titles nominated for the prestigious Man Booker Prize for Fiction. Don’t want to leave you dangling, because the short list has been announced. For those scoring at home:

mbp_logo_2006b.gifKiran Desai, The Inheritance of Loss (Hamish Hamilton)

Kate Grenville, The Secret River (Canongate)

M.J. Hyland, Carry Me Down (Canongate)

Hisham Matar, In the Country of Men (Viking)

Edward St. Aubyn, Mother’s Milk (Picador)

Sarah Waters, The Night Watch (Virago)

BBC News noted: “British author David Mitchell — the bookmakers’ early favourite to win when the longlist was announced last month–is not included on the shortlist. Waters, previously shortlisted in 2002, has been named the bookies’ favourite. Previous recipients Peter Carey, Nadine Gordimer and Barry Unsworth also failed to make it past the first round.”

The winner will be announced Oct. 10.
