Book Club Picks Classic

bird.jpgI have been handed a news flash by Sue de Malignon, moderator of the River City Books fiction book club, which met on tonight to discuss The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards. The club has made its November selection — To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

“Mockingbird” doesn’t need much of an introduction to those of you who went to junior high school. This classic novel is a story of a lawyer in the Deep South who defends a black man charged with the rape of a white girl.

One of the best-loved stories of all time, “To Kill a Mockingbird” has earned many distinctions since its original publication in 1960. It won the Pulitzer Prize, has been translated into more than 40 languages, sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, and been made into an enormously popular movie.

It’s also just a great selection for book clubs because the novel stimulates such interesting discussions.

Next meeting: Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the downstairs meeting area at River City.
