Calling All Young Adult Readers

I just heard something that is way cool: River City Books is starting a young adult book club!

teen-week.JPGThe club is free and open anyone between the ages of 12 and 16. The first meeting will be at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16, in RCB’s cozy downstairs meeting area. The first book to be read will be picked during this meeting and each month the selected title, chosen by the group, will be 20 percent off.

To celebrate the kickoff of this new book group, all young adult titles will be on sale for 20 percent off all day on Oct. 16.

Katie Goetz, a River City bookseller and a Carleton College graduate, will moderate the club. Katie has experience facilitating young-adult readings and she’ll undoubtedly make this an enjoyable club for kids who are enthusiastic about books.

The club is starting at the perfect time, too. Teen Read Week is a national literacy initiative aimed at teens and their parents. It is celebrated each year during the third week of October and this year runs from Oct. 15 to 21.

Hope you — or the young reader in your life — will participate.
