Ch-Ch-Changes in Children’s Section

new-kids.JPGI happened to mosey around my favorite bookstore last night and I noticed something startling: River City Books has expanded its children’s section.

I asked store manager Jon Lee about what I was seeing. He told me RCB has made some changes to some sections at the back of the store in an effort to make more room for kids and young adult books.

For example, the middle section — both sides of both rows of shelves — is now entirely devoted to children’s and young adult books. The sections begin in the corner with board books, then wind around to picture books, pop-up books, activity books, foreign language, children’s nonfiction, early reader, and intermediate and young adult books (with the series books and manga mixed in).

As for the back wall, RCB has shifted the parenting, education and health sections slightly to make room for science and math, atlases, reference, test prep, college guides, art, crafts, homes, cooking, gardening, nature, humor and games.

Hey, don’t feel like you need to memorize these changes. You won’t need a map to find your way around. Everything is laid out in a logical fashion and if you can’t find anything at first, just ask one of the amiable booksellers. Probably best just to stop by and see for yourself. I think you’ll appreciate the new design, especially if you shop for children’s titles now and then.
