If You Haven’t Taken A Bite Already

fast-food.JPGAt least to me, it seems like an odd recipe for a feature film. This week the movie “Fast Food Nation” will open, supposedly a fictional thriller based on Eric Schlosser’s nonfictional investigation of the fast food industry and its detrimental effects on the country.

I heard Schlosser speak when he came to Carleton College last year and I could not recommend his work more highly. I think his book, Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal, is one everyone should read — I know it drastically changed eating habits in my nest — and a good number of readers already have. For those of you who haven’t yet sunk your teeth into this important book, there’s a new movie tie-in edition already on sale at River City Books.

As for the movie, I may not understand how director Richard Linklater will pull this off — if you’ve read the book you know what I am talking about — but given my appreciation for Schlosser’s work, I’ll give it a taste.
