Illustrator Added to the Ticket

buchwald.jpgA couple weeks ago I reported that Claire Buchwald, author of the recently published popular children’s book Max Talks to Me, would be appear at my favorite bookstore this weekend (11 a.m. on Saturday for whose who follow a traditional date-clock schedule). Well, I have a revision to that bit of exciting news. Not only is Buchwald appearing, so is the book’s illustrator, Karen Ritz. At no extra charge! By the way, the event is free.

If you’re not familiar with Ritz, she has a degree in children’s literature from the University of Minnesota and teaches about visual language at the undergraduate and graduate level. She has illustrated some forty books, including Kate Shelley and the Midnight Express, featured on public television’s “Reading Rainbow,” Ellis Island, a 1995 Minnesota Book Award winner, and A Picture Book of Anne Frank. Her work is housed at the Children’s Literature Research Collection at the University of Minnesota.

“Max Talks to Me” is the story of Alex and his dog, Max, who are true friends — the kind that share each other’s excitement, comfort each other when they are sad, wait together when parents are away, and have fun wherever they are. By observing and listening to his dog, by sharing good times and bad, he and Max are earning each other’s love and devotion.

Hope to see you Saturday. Just as important, don’t forget to bring a kid!
