Countdown Now Hours, Not Days

potter.jpgIn case you haven’t heard — and if you haven’t let me be the first to welcome you back to the home planet — the final book in the Harry Potter series will be released at the stroke of midnight tonight.

As you humble servant, I simply want to take this opportunity to make sure you are aware of the unique celebration that has been planned for the release of the final book in the Harry Potter series.

It’s not just a midnight party anymore.

Starting at 6 p.m., those purchasing copies from River City Books can stop by the store and pick up a card to reserve a place in line. Throughout the night, the store will distribute free, custom-made temporary tattoos and sponsor activities on Division Street.

Included in the schedule of events:

8:30 p.m. — A costumed Harry Potter character will perform in front of the store on Division Street.

9 p.m. — A costume contest will be held on Division Street. Contestants may dress as any character from one of the Harry Potter books. River City Books gift cards will be awarded as prizes ($30 for first place, $20 for second, $10 for third).

9:30 p.m. — There will be an outdoor showing of the movie “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Feel free to bring something to sit on.

Midnight — Doors open for sales of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” In-store promotions include a free Harry Potter gift for the first 200 customers and the chance to win one of five Harry Potter cloth school banners.

In addition, throughout the evening, Division Street will be partly closed off, street vendors will be on hand, and many retailers are staying open late and coordinating Harry Potter-inspired activities.

Put it altogether and this should be a night like no other. We hope you can be part of it!

But, if you absolutely cannot make it … either because the party is past your bedtime or you don’t like crowds of excited humans … you still don’t have to wait long to pick up your copy. River City Books will be open extended hours — from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. — on Saturday, July 21.
