Setting Aside the Mystery, Picking Up a History

adams-bargain.jpg“The 2004 campaign may seem tame after historian Ferling’s riveting account of the 1800 presidential race.” That’s what USA Today wrote about Adams vs. Jefferson: The Tumultuous Election of 1800 by John Ferling, who the Washington Post says “is especially adept at revealing the bare-knuckled partisanship that lay behind this vote, and the maneuvering between Burr and Federalists in the House of Representatives that might have made Burr president rather than Jefferson.”

You deserve a break today. Put aside the Alexander McCall Smith or the Janet Evanovich — just for spell; not forever! — and dig into a good history.

Best part about “Adams vs. Jefferson” may be that the other day I saw that it’s on sale for just $5.98 in hardcover down at the old neighborhood bookstore. While supplies last.
